Call them crayfish, crawfish, crawdads or mudbugs, but you won’t find them listed on any restaurant menus on the island and nor would you expect to, especially if you’re picturing a traditional messy-fingers-eatin’ southern-style boil-up of the little crustaceans.
But that’s about to change—at least for a night.
Nick & Johnnie’s (207 Royal Poinciana Way; www.nickandjohnniespb.com), no stranger to themed dining nights, is rolling out a “Born on the Bayou” binge this Friday, Aug. 8, and among the featured daily specials—hailing largely from New Orleans’ bayou country—is an all-in-the-pot crawfish boil with andouille sausage, corn and potatoes.
There’ll be okra, too—another otherwise Palm Beach menu absentee—because what’s a shrimp gumbo without it?
According to Nick & Johnnie’s’ executive chef, Kent Thurston, other “Born on the Bayou” specials this Friday at the restaurant will include Cajun-style fried catfish served with potato wedges and coleslaw, and a Creole-style jambalaya with tasso ham, sausage, chicken, shrimp, peppers and scallions all cooked with rice.
The fare will be offered from 4 p.m. through dinner hours.
